Chloe's 2004 season is based around Conwy on the coast of North Wales. Conwy was chosen for its easy accessibility by road or public transport, it’s natural beauty and historic interest and, with the proximity of the beautiful Menai Straits, its all-weather versatility. Chloe's 2004 itinerary at-a-glance is shown in the table below (click on the links at the head of the coulumns to find out more about each type of voyage). Please note that we also charter Chloe (on a skippered basis) to groups at very favourable rates. So if you, and a group of friends, family or colleagues, would like to spend a holiday together, contact us now.
To help you choose a suitable holiday or break, the nature of each type of trip is described below
These short (2 day) voyages based in Wales are ideal for those who want to do something different with their weekend and perhaps give sailing a try. They also give more experienced sailors a rare chance to get to grips with a traditional gaff rigged pilot cutter. We hardly need sing the praises of the coastline of North Wales to those of you who know it, and for those who don’t, you’re about to discover a wonderful crusing area. Possible itinerary: A typical weekend might see us leaving Conwy or Menai bridge, overnighting at a quiet anchorage off the Lleyn peninsula, or Bardsey Island, perhaps enjoying a meal ashore in the historic cities of Caernarfon or Conwy, each with its own mediaeval castle. We may navigate our way along the fabulous Menai straits, negotiating the infamous ‘Swellies’ en route to Beaumaris and Puffin Island. If the weather fails to co-operate, the easily accessible 19 mile long Menai Straits provide an ideal, picturesque and sheltered cruising ground where we can sail whatever the conditions. Ideal for: • Those new to sailing who want a taster without too much commitment • more experienced hands who’d like to get to grips with a traditional gaff rigged pilot cutter • Either of the above whose time commitments are pressing
A great advantage of the Welsh coast is the wide range of safe havens accessible to us, the great natural beauty of the nearby mountains, and the relative solitude of these waters as compared to other areas of the UK. During these five day trips we aim to make the best of the North Welsh coastline, venturing as far as the wind, tide (and crew preferences!) will take us, while still allowing time ashore. Possible itinerary: We would expect to explore the beautiful Welsh coast around Anglesey and down the Lleyn peninsula. This stunning area with its sandy beaches, mountainous backdrop and quiet anchorages, is probably unrivalled outside of Scotland for its variety and interest. We would almost certainly expect to visit the romantic and mystical Island of Bardsey (see links) and perhaps poke our bowsprit into Harlech, Pwhelli or Aberystwyth. We might spend some quiet nights anchored in the delightful Pilot's cove just outside of Caernarfon bar, or the secluded anchorages at the Western end of the Menai Straits. Perhaps we might spend an evening ashore in the historic mediaeval cities Caernarfon or Conwy. In suitable weather, and depending on crew preference, we might do some night sailing, which, for those of you who haven't done any, can be a delightful experience. Ideal for: • those with some experience of sailing who relish the experience of sailing a traditional gaff rigged pilot cutter on a modest expedition. • outdoor types who wish to add 'sailing' to their list of activities • people who have enjoyed a 'classic weekend' and want to extend that experience
A centrally located welsh base allows access wide range of potential destinations to the North, South and West, and with seven days to play with we aim to make the best of the wind and tide available to us and go expeditioning farther afield Possible itinerary: Again, we can at least expect to explore the beautiful Welsh coast along the Anglesey and the Lleyn peninsula, and would almost certainly expect to visit the romantic and mystical Island of Bardsey (see links). The nature of these destinations may require an overnight passage, but the emphasis remains on enjoyment rather than endurance. Weather and wind permitting, given that these are seven day trips, we could venture ; WEST - to Southern Ireland for a Guiness in Dublin, or Dun Laoghaire or a day or two in the peaceful and enchanting Strangford Lough, NORTH - to the Isle of Man or Galloway, SOUTH - to the beautiful ports and anchorages of Cardigan bay, perhaps the marine-life sanctuaries located on and around the islands of Skoma and Skokholm or the picturesque anchorage of Dale on the stunning Pembrokeshire coast. Ideal for: • those with some (or considerable!) experience of sailing who relish the experience of sailing a gaffer on a modest expedition. • outdoor types who wish to give sailing a go
This year we aim to participate in two nautical festivals: The Mersea Festival takes place between the 18th and 21st June. We would aim to leave the coast of North Wales on the morning of the 18th June, spend a couple of days enjoying the festivities, and return on the 21st. Two days of sailing, and two days of fun ashore. A number of visiting classic ships have been confirmed. They include the two really big 'stars' of television and film, Grand Turk and Matthew of Bristol and the former trading ship, Bessie Ellen and Iris, another famous tall ship, , has just been confirmed. More of these magnificent sailing ships are expected … so watch this space. Once ashore, enjoy some of the most exciting street theatre ever seen in the UK (we are promised giant Liver birds, nautical clowns, ancient mariners, mermaids and pirates galore), spend some time at the famousr mMersey Shanty Festival ... and a host of other attractions. Cost £450 per person inclusive. The Conwy River Festival takes place between the 31st July and the 8th of August. Join the fun and festivities and sail on a classic, amongst the classics. Day sailings are available during the whole of this period The Conwy River Festival is the premier yachting festival serving the whole of the Irish Sea including the Isle of Man, Ireland and the ports and harbours of the North West of the UK. From the beautiful and picturesque base in the River Conwy this special festival of sail appeals to a wide range of participants including fast racing yachts, traditional working boats, especially Welsh Nobbies and Gaffers, modern cruisers and local classes of one-designs coming from all parts of Wales, the Isle of Man and the North West of England. Now in it's 14th. year the Conwy River Festival continues to grow year on year with record number of boats taking part each day of this unique nine-day festival of sail. The famous LA-LA cruise-in-company from Conwy to Caernarfon has become a significant element of the festival that appeals equally to the cruising yachts as well as many of the out and out racers. Another record entry is expected in 2004 with new and vibrant activities taking part along the way of this two day cruise through some of the most stunning scenery anywhere in the UK. Price £120 per person per day
