Martin owns Chloe. Having been a committed climber and mountaineer for
may years Martin turned his attention to sailing about five years ago,
Inspired by the late great Bill Tilman (perhaps the greatest
sailor/mountaineer of all time) and his adventures aboard his several
Bristol Channel Pilot Cutters (see links). Spurred on by Tilman's
exploits Martin
bought Chloe in December 2002. He has sailed extensively in UK waters
and two years ago sailed to Spitsbergen, reaching a latitude of 80
degrees North. He still climbs (though not as well as he did since
sailing took over!). Martin
is leaving his academic post at the University of Sheffield in March
2004 and will be skippering Chloe for a number of her 2004 trips.
Nesta jointly owns Chloe. She too has sailed for around five years,
Sensibly Nesta has decided to keep her lectureship in physiotherapy at
Sheffield Hallam University and not to get involved in the day to day
running of Chloe May. Having said that she may make cameo appearances
on some of Chloe's trips.
An ex naval officer, Dave has many years experience of seamanship
and lives and breathes sailing. He has many
thousands of sea-miles under his belt and knows the Welsh coast
extremely well. He is a yachtmaster instructor
and freelance skipper. Having previously owned his own classic boat, he
has developed a passion for gaffers and is an ardent Chloe fan. Dave
will
skipper Chloe on many of her trips
